Artist Statement:

My clay work consists of individually unique hand built stoneware and porcelain pieces which are both sculptural and functional.  I use pinch pot, slab and coil techniques along with carving, incising, paddling and stretching.    I alter the pieces referring to preliminary sketches.  They are fired in an electric kiln to cone 06.  Then I apply glazes by dipping, painting and wiping, after which the pieces are fired in a gas kiln to cone 10.  I am inspired by pre Columbian and early Asian art forms.  Because I was born on a small Atlantic island sea themes often recur in my work.   I like to champion animals that are not traditionally embraced as lovable like armadillos, water buffalo and rhinos by incorporating them into pieces.
