Artist's Bio:

Joan Duff Bohrer was raised in New Jersey, earned her undergraduate degree at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania and her Master’s degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ She also did independent study at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. She currently spends summer and fall in Salem, NY and winter and spring in Dunedin, FL.

Joan maintains studios in both locations.  She exhibits at Gasparilla Art Show in Tampa, Mainsail in St. Petersburg and at Dunedin Fine Art Center where she also teaches in the winter sessions.

In New York, she exhibits in the bi-annual Open Studios of Washington County, NY The next show is in 2013. ,She is represented privately in Florida by Alison West Brown in Clearwater.

Artist Statement:

Duff Bohrer’s work features strong color and a loose painterly style, characterized by a construction and destruction of drawn shapes. Her current series involves layers of drawing of unrelated objects, selected for their unusual shapes. These layers and shapes later merge into a large color composition, presently involving birds and cages. The 'merging' process is dependent on imagination and chance.  The artist is intent on the resulting painting having suggestions of human relationships, choice, freedom and security.
