Celebrating 60Years of Art in Florida
Purpose
The Florida Artist Group was incorporated as a non-profit organization of professional artist painters, sculptors and photographers who have received national and statewide recognition and whose works contribute significantly to the exhibitions. The purpose of the group is to attain the highest standards of creative art.
Annual Symposium
Since 1949 the Florida Artist Group has held an Annual Symposium & Exhibition each year in a different Florida city. Education and other cultural aims are advocated at these meetings through lectures, panel discussions and artist demonstrations opened to the public.
Member's Annual Exhibition
All members are eligible to participate in the Annual FLAG Exhibition which is juried for awards and on occasion, due to space requirements, is a juried show. In addition to the Symposium & Exhibition, Area Exhibitions are sponsored throughout the year. The nature of these follow the character of the annual meeting which provide an opportunity to participate in different venues bringing the membership closer together. Our goal is to contribute to the cultural atmosphere of our state.
Each juror is a distinguished artist, educator, curator, or museum director. Among them Sam Gilliam who has achieved international recognition as a member of the Washington Color School, Dr. Donald Kuspit one of America's most distinguished art critics, David C. Levy, Director of the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, Dr. John Angeline, Professor of Parsons School of Design and recipient of the Peggy Guggenheim Fellowship Award, Donaldson F. Hoopes, Curator of American Art , Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
