The Florida Artist Group is an organization of professional painters, sculptors and photographers who have received national and statewide recognition. Its purpose is to attain the highest standards of creative art in the State of Florida. The Sarasota Ringling College of Art and Design and the Selby Gallery will be hosting the FLAG 62nd Annual Symposium and State Wide Exhibition. The opening reception will take place on May 11, 2012 at the Selby Gallery 5 - 7 pm.
The Symposium includes tours of the Ringling campus, the future Sarasota Museum of Art/ SMOA, meetings and an Animation workshop by a top faculty member of the Ringling College of Art and Design. The highlight will be a presentation by esteemed juror: Tom Nakashima. As painter and printmaker, he is the recipient of numerous awards and is in over 50 permanent public collections and museums worldwide.
Ranging from the abstract to representational, Nakashima’s paintings are monolithic images that address social and environmental issues. Presently Tom has a large museum exhibition titled Cycle of Change: Tom Nakashima’s Treepile Paintings, currently on view at the Vero Beach Museum of Art through June 12th 2012. Tom’s presentation on May 12 at the Ringling College Auditorium is open to the public.
The FLAG Annual Exhibition represents a wide range of creative art in multimedia, at the Selby Gallery, Sarasota's premier gallery for contemporary visual arts. The 3,000 square-foot Gallery presents major exhibitions by nationally and internationally celebrated artists, designers, illustrators and photographers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
