was born in in in in in 1912 in in in in in Rotterdam Rotterdam Holland and and and became interested in in in in in art when still a a a a a a a a a a a a a child He studied at the the the the Lyceum and and and Art Academy in in in in in in in Rotterdam Rotterdam Then he he he he he he he he he moved to to to the the the the Hague where he he he he he he he he he devoted himself to to to the the the the painting profession He studied for several years with Professor William Van Den Berg who was director of of of the the the the the Rijksacademie in in in in in in in Amsterdam and and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a noted painter in in in in in in in Holland In 1938 Ru married Ann Ritz and and and they came to to the the the United States He continued his studies at at the the the Art Students League in in in in in New York of which he he he he was a a life member He joined the the the Dutch armed forces during World War II and and and and he he he he he and and and and his wife moved to Sarasota in in in in 1953 They operated operated their own gallery and and and and craft shop shop Ru Ru and and and and Arms Studio on on on the the the the the the South Tamiami Trail During the the the the the the summer months they operated operated another shop shop in in in in Thornton New Hampshire Ru Ru participated in in in in many exhibitions: Modem Dutch Dutch Dutch Art in in in in Holland and and and America a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a traveling show organized by the the the the the Dutch Dutch Dutch government and and and other exhibitions exhibitions In In addition he he he he he he exhibited at the the the the New New New York York Public Library Dutch Dutch Dutch West Indies Radio City Hall Hall the the the the Whitney Museum Manchester New New New Hampshire Syracuse New New New York York Symphony Hall Hall in in Boston Sarasota Sarasota Art Art Art Association Philadelphia Art Art Art Alliance Lowe Gallery in in in in in Miami the the the the Society of Four Arts Isaac Delgado Museum in in in in New Orleans and and the the the the Governor’s Show in in in in Sarasota Sarasota Sarasota He He won many awards in in in in these exhibitions He He and and his wife also executed a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a mural for the the the home of Philip Hiss a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a well known Sarasota Sarasota architect
