Why artists join FLAG:
– Opportunity to participate in the Annual Statewide exhibition and symposium, as well as Area exhibits. The Annual exhibit is judged by a highly distinguished professional in the art field. Awards include a $1500 first prize, $1000 second prize, $500 third prize, with additional cash and merchandise awards for a overall estimated total of more than $5000.
– Access to participate in Area and Regional exhibitions by FLAG.
– Recognition as having achieved excellence in the visual arts by being a member of this rigorously selected (juried) highly professional and prestigious statewide network of artists.
– Access to provide information for a personal gallery page to include images, cv, artist statement and more on the FLAG website.
-Access to promote your activities on FLAG’s social media.
– Gain alliances with complimentary art organizations and venues.
MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
It is important that you understand your responsibilities if you are selected as a member. Participation in the organization is good for you and the health of the organization. If you do not feel you can be actively volunteer and participate at this time, please consider waiting and applying in the future when you are better able to participate. We issue a Call for NEW members starting around July 1 of each year.
Now take a moment and please carefully review the information below so you clearly understand membership responsibilities and also have all the materials that you will need to apply before starting the application process. Your complete application and payment must be received no later than August 24, 2024, midnight. Late applications will not be accepted.
IMPORTANT NOTICES FOR 2024/25: Traditional mediums are accepted such as sculpture (bronze, ceramic, and glass, etc), mixed media, fine art fiber, painting, drawing, digital art / photography. AI generated artwork or use of AI as a major contributor in your artwork creation is not accepted at this time as you must be the sole creator of your art. If you have questions regarding the types of mediums, please email the State Membership Chair Linda Chipperfield, ChipperfieldDesign@gmail.com.
1. Responsibilities of membership (Standing Rules 4.2.2021, Article V. Membership 2. A, Active Member – Artists)
i. Subscribe to FLAG objectives. (visit www.floridaartistsgroup.org)
ii. Actively volunteer for the state-wide organization and Area of residence – assist Area Chair with setting goals and meeting goals – attend at least one Area meeting and one Annual Meeting (full member) per year.
iii. In the spirit of rotation, we encourage all members to share their talents and ideas. Each member is expected to participate as an Officer, Area Chair or Assistant to the Area Chair or in other tasks when requested such as member of Standing Committees – this willingness helps maintain a viable organization where all members take part and pride in the organization’s foundation of service to the arts and its members.
iv. Responsible for providing updated personal contact information to the State Membership Chair within two weeks of changes.
v. Responsible to assure Web information is updated at least annually. Out of date information on the web page reflects poorly on the organization.
vi. Pay annual membership dues by September 30. Currently $65.00 and is due once membership is approved. The $25 new member application fee will offset a portion of the first-year membership fee for artists who are invited to join the group and accept the invitation.
vii. Must exhibit in our FLAG state-wide group annual exhibition at least once in three consecutive years.
viii. Must exhibit at least twice in a three-year period in available Area exhibits.
ix. May vote and hold office.
2. Submission Requirements and Review: (Standing Rules 4.2.2021, Article V, 1.C, Membership) Applicants who wish to be active Artist Members must demonstrate an established career of a high level of competence in the visual arts and live in Florida at least nine consecutive months a year. All members are expected to maintain an active exhibiting career during their membership as well.
The link to the application is below in section 3. You will want to have all documents and images ready and easily accessible for inserting / uploading to the submission. Artist Member Applicants must submit an application that is complete with supporting documents provided only in a digital format to include the following:
JPG IMAGES
✓ Eight images in a consistent art medium in JPG format – Max. size 2 MB each and 72 dpi only (A consistent medium for the purpose of a successful application means a cohesive body of work where all pieces share a strong consistency in artistic mediums, approach or style.) Where possible hide the signature in the image. Crop so no frame is shown.
✓ Image file name should be in formatted and numbered (1-8 images) in the following manner:
Image number (1-8)_Your Initials_Title_Medium_Size_Year Completed_Price. Do not include spaces or dollar signs. (For Example: 1_JM_GoneFishing_Oil_12x12_2022_450)
RESUME AND BIO/ARTIST STATEMENT
✓ If you copy and paste your text documents into EntryThingy, you must check that it copied without miscoding text and creating an awkward format. Some font letters might change and spacing of text might change. Correct all errors. If you don’t correct them, your information will not read well and thus be confusing during our review.
✓ Professional Resume / Curriculum Vitae, maximum 2-page. This shall include dates, educational background, solo and group exhibitions, and awards with dates and venues. General comments like “won many awards” or “several exhibits” are not acceptable. REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THIS DOCUMENT, TITLE AND FILE NAME.
✓ An artist’s bio/statement, maximum 1-page. Please include the number of months you are living in Florida. While we can accept 9 months residency preference is full time residency. This document is a bit of your background and artist statement. REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THIS DOCUMENT, TITLE AND FILE NAME. Use 3rd person when writing and use “the artist” instead of gender identifying terms.
NOTE if you are new to EntryThingy you will create a Profile and insert these documents in your new Profile and if you already have a Profile in EntryThingy, you update your documents by editing in your Profile — as the submission process, where you upload images, will not ask for them – and you will want us to have the most current information about you.
FULLFILLING THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS does not guarantee membership.
REVIEW PROCESS
The Board of Directors are the jurors for membership. The application review process is to be “blind,” i.e., without photo of the applicant visible to the jurors. The information you provided will be the main qualifying elements of the review, but review members may also choose to research the applicant further on the internet. The new member review process should be completed by August 24. The FLAG Membership Chair will advise applicants of the membership selection outcome so that invitees can accept and pay the additional membership fee by September 30th. Our annual year runs October 1 – September 30.
3. How to submit – we look forward to reviewing your application: You can make your payment or Application in any order. However, both must be completed by the deadline. No paper entries or payment by check are accepted. All submissions are to be through EntryThingy and paid through PayPal.
i. Prepare you documents, and images as specified above. Then link to EntryThingy to apply. You may have to create an account “Profile” as an artist in EntryThingy. – they have videos to help you. Technical issues? – Contact Hello@EntryThingy.com

iii. The deadline for the applications to be received is August 24, 2024, by midnight, including the non-refundable application fee which is currently $25.00. This fee will offset a portion of the first-year membership fee (currently $65., so newly invited members pay $40. once they accept the invitation.
