John's Bio:

l was born in New York City and spent the next Nineteen years there and North Jersey, before enlisting in the United States Air Force, in 1961. I was an illustrator in the service, for eight years, including a one year tour in South Vietnam, graphically documenting Airlift Operations in 1968. I self-published an illustrated memoir in 2013. The book, “Eleven Months and Nineteen Days “, was awarded a silver medal by the Florida Authors and Publishers Association, in 2014. In 1969 I left the Service, moved to South Florida and went to work in the Advertising Art Department of the Miami Herald. I spent the next forty years working in the newspaper advertising business, before retiring. Throughout all those years I was creating paintings in watercolor for my own pleasure when I had the time. Now that l’m retired, I paint full time and l’m a signature member of both the Florida Watercolor and Gold Coast Watercolor Societies. I now participate in Outdoor Art Shows, where I sell my paintings and my book.

Artist Statement:

Realistic expressionism is how I describe my work. Capturing a mood, striving to tell a story, intrigued by history, landscapes themes, these are the inspiration that create my art. Emphasizing the play on light and shadow as seen in nature. Describing textures of time written in historic places, that sense of space. These are the feelings l try to express in my painting. Each idea is carefully planned out from exploration through execution. I work with photography then drawing to help achieve my vision. I combine both opaque and transparent watercolors on heavy 300 lb. Arches watercolor paper.
