Artists Bio:

Carson Kapp draws upon her life experience to create exuberant and spirited mixed media and acrylic works that emphasize dynamic movement.

Kapp’s passion for art began at Tulane University, where she earned a Master of Architecture degree. Carson fulfilled the examination and internship required to become a registered Architect. Her design process builds upon her knowledge of the history of art and architecture and is inspired by the perennial charm of the Big Easy.

Kapp’s current work captures the spontaneity and emotion of life and marries the linear and the curvilinear. Carson’s artwork and her life is on a spiritual journey mirroring her study of Buddhism and other Eastern philosophical ideas. Daily meditation and mindfulness are awakening her heart, flourishing her creative spark and blooming into inner wisdom.

Artist Statement:

“So in the darkness shall be the light and the stillness the dancing.”  T.S. Eliot

T.S Eliot’s quote demonstrates an Eastern philosophical idea of paradox. The light comes out of the darkness like stars are born out of black holes. Without the stillness between the steps there would not be a dance.
In my former life I was an architect. My work was commercial, massive in scale, and complex. Now as an artist my work is wonky, whimsical and fearless. As an architect I was concerned with structure, safety, and function. As an artist I am free of those constraints, free to move into a world purely of my own creation.
Persistent in my work, both in architecture and in art, is the use of line, the consistent underlying foundation. Using line as the dominant element, I have created both 3-dimensional, massive structures, and now as an artist, 2-dimensional fantasy worlds, incorporating people, architecture and nature. Everything our reality offers, but these are the worlds of my imagination.  Along with lines – fat, skinny, broken, any kind I can make – I use exaggerated and sensuous shapes in bright colors and energetic quick strokes. The end result is a surrealistic vision of the world.
