Artist Statement:
Architectural forms and other three dimensional objects related to churches, houses and vessels on wheels are the framework for these creations which first appear to me as a rough vision, then evolve as I create them. The strength of each piece is generally first in the design element and then, as they are assembled, become a study in color and pattern. The rich, luminous hues of hand-dyed Indonesian cotton batiks are the basis for all my work. I marvel daily at their radiant yet subtle beauty, often just fingering through my delicious collection of fabric pieces with sheer delight.
While I enjoy incorporating humor into my work, the serious side of my creative inspiration comes from spirituality, a reverence for nature and an unconditional love for mankind. My desire is to express these concepts without words, using only form and color to convey a message.
