Jean's Bio:
Jean Wagner (Willhite) Troemel, at the age of three, knew that she want to be an artist. She studied with famous teachers in West Palm Beach, Norton Gallery of Art, later in Washington and New York at the Art Students League, National Academy of Design and privately with M.A. Rasco. Later she studied at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque where she had a studio in Old Town. While in Los Alamos, New Mexico she was an assistant engineer in 1947 and 1948 in the drafting department with the University of California. She returned to Florida where she founded the Ridge Art Association in 1950 in Winterhaven. Moving to Jacksonville and St. Augustine, she established P.A.S.T.A. Gallery which revived vital
interest in art and the First Friday Art Walks. She taught art for 25 years and became a member of FLAG in 1954, served as President in 1975, 1976 and 1996. Troemel is a Fellow with the Royal Society of Art London, listed in the World's Who's Who of Women for the past 15 years. She is represented in private and public collections. A versatile artist, she specializes in
portraiture and in 2012 gave the City of St. Augustine a life-sized painting of their founder Pedro Menendez de Aviles.
