Joan's Bio:

Joan Lustig is a multifaceted award winning artist who works in acrylics, monotypes, mixed media and jewelry.  Her designs are spontaneous and intuitive and develop as the work progresses.  As the
interaction of color, texture and shapes grow she draws from her inner experiences to resolve the work. Her vision is to have a response from the viewer, based on their own feelings or emotions to the piece. In addition to exhibiting and winning awards in museum shows and galleries, she has had
several solo shows.

Composition, color, shapes, placement, and surface all are important elements of my work. It was my
good fortune to have studied at Brooklyn College where I was influenced by my instructors
Mark Rothko, Ad Reinhardt, Barnett Newman, and Jimmy Ernst. In each medium in which I’ve
worked, acrylic, monotype, collage, and jewelry design, composition has been the most important
element, but layering and form have also had a role in my striving for a unique voice in the world of
art. The composition is intuitive.  It begins with inspiration, followed by ideas, mood, luck, imagination,
and risk as I draw on my own experiences to develop the piece.  Each work of art is interactive,
challenging the imagination of the viewer.
