Artist Bio:
Lorrie B. Turner has been painting all her life. She took her first professional lesson at age eight and had her first exhibition at age twelve (NYC schools, Board of Ed.) She continued her art education in New York City, and then went into advertising and the publishing/magazine world.
Lorrie’s love affair with pastel, its vibrancy of color, its luminosity and sensuality all began about forty years ago, although she still paints in oils. Her subject matter is an impressionistic urban-scape, water/marine-scape or whatever other world she happens to find herself, mirroring its and her many moods, personalities and feelings, both familiar and challenging.
Turner moved from New York to Florida in 2005, where she can paint “plein air” almost all year. She has been teaching, giving demonstrations and workshops in pastel painting nationally and internationally for the past 35 years. In New York, she taught at the Pastel Society of America at their studios in the National Arts Club, as well as on Long Island, NY and now privately in her studio. “I learn almost as much from my students as they learn from me – especially humility.” She also teaches workshops here and abroad, juries local art shows, and gives critiques as a program at various art clubs.
A Signature Member and Immediate Past-President of the Boca Raton Museum of Art - Artists’ Guild as well as past Vice President & Gallery Director, she is also a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, and a past board member of PSA, a Board Member of Plein Air Palm Beach, Southwest Florida Pastel Society, Salmagundi Club and several local art clubs in New York and Florida. She has exhibited her paintings throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, Europe and China, and is included in many private and corporate collections.
She travels world-wide to teach and paint: Australia, China, Europe and of course throughout the United States.
