Sonia's Bio:

Sonia Ann Smith graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Slavic
Studies and Art History. During her studies, she acquired a strong interest in the
works of William Kurelek. His use of bold color and simple composition continues
to influence Sonia’s work.
In 1992, Sonia relocated to St. Petersburg where her work became known and
respected in the arts community. After several years of association with the Suntan
Center, she moved to The Art Center (now the Morean Arts Center) in 1995 to
work under the guidance of Marjorie Dean Andruk. The affiliation with Ms. Andruk
continued until her death in 2010.
Sonia has participated in workshops with Elizabeth Clement, Fred Samuelson,
Marjorie Green and Jack Barrette.

Exhibits:

The Art Center (including “Andruk’s Dozen” 1995 through 2003), St. Petersburg
Beach Center, Ambiance Galleries, the 2001 juried art show at Salt Creek
Galleries, and Mahaffey Center. In 2007, she was awarded first prize in the
Treasure Island Art Guild juried competition. Suntan Art Center presented a
successful one–woman show of her work in 2011.

Commercially, Sonia is associated with the Vincent William Gallery in St.
Petersburg Beach and Art on First in downtown St. Petersburg. Her work is found in
collections in St. Petersburg, Tampa, Atlanta and Toronto.
