 Candy's Bio:

As a realistic photographer, I use my camera to capture a fleeting moment in time, a moment that otherwise would be lost forever. My images showcase the details of life, the little corners. It can be the whole picture or a small spot from that picture that my camera is able to recreate. A mood is sent to the viewer as he/she looks at the image. I have a deep respect for nature and old, worn out cars and houses. Visiting automobile graveyards and the back roads of Georgia and Alabama, I have found some of my most recent material. Some of my subject matter is selected just for its beauty.

A self taught photographer with a degree in chemistry and mathematics from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (now Randolph College) in Virginia, I find my way to workshops offered to improve my skills. I have attended the NAPP Photoshop Seminars offered at the Ft. Lauderdale Convention Center each year 2007-2011. I attended a workshop offered by nature photographer George Lepp and was a member of the 2010 Class of the Artist as Entrepreneur sponsored by the Broward County Cultural Arts Division.

The Coral Springs Museum of Art will be the venue for an exhibit of my Florida bird photography, along with two other artists in early 2012 as well as an exhibit in the Lee Wagener Art Gallery at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport July-October 2012.My image, “Cormorant Portrait” was accepted into the 2011 ArtBravo Exhibit at Art Serve. My work, “Milkweed in Blue,” was accepted into the All Florida Juried Exhibition 2011 at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. My Image “Engrossed in the Daily Report” received a Best in Show medal and judge’s medal at the North Georgia Circuit (a Photographic Society of America sanctioned competition) competition in August of 2011. The Carrollton Cultural Center in Carrollton, Georgia was the venue for a solo exhibit, “Beaks Feathers and Plumes” in May of 2010. A selection from that exhibit was presented at the Coconut Creek Recreation Center in Coconut Creek, Florida during the 2010 summer. My Florida environmental and wildlife images hung in the Ft. Lauderdale office of Governor Crist. I was juried into the Florida Artists Group in January, 2010 and was recognized by the Armory Art Center as a member of the Armory Watch for Excellence, 9-2009.

I am serving as the professional artist on the Coral Springs Art in Public Places Committee and am also a board member of the Broward Art Guild. Recently, I became the Area I Chairman for the Florida Artists Group (FLAG). I am the First Vice President (competition) of the Coral Springs Camera Club and past vice president of the Coral Springs Artist Guild. Also, I hold memberships in the Photographic Society of America and the Everglades Chapter of the Photographic Society of America.

Artists Statement:

I am a photographer of the natural world who looks for unusual details. The small corners and crevices of nature that frequently go unnoticed create the body of my work. My canvas is fashioned from the everyday beauty in nature that draws my eye into a place that most people would pass by without a glance. When the shutter closes on my camera, I have captured a moment that would otherwise be lost forever.
My work is not created from a blank canvas but rather taken from the cluttered world around me. It is simplified by focusing on the small details. As a photographer, I choose my subject matter from the world as I find it rather than creating a piece of art in my mind before painting it on a canvas. It is my wish that the viewer will take away an appreciation of the beauty of those small corners in nature that they would normally disregard.
