Eleanor's Bio:
Eleanor Richter, artist, photographer, and teacher, works in a variety of media including
watercolor, acrylic and digital art. She has won local, regional, and national recognition for her work
and has been published in numerous catalogs including a cultural publication in Spain,
“Espiral de las Artes”, in which her computer work, “Amarylis Biogenesis 3” was published
in 1998. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from New Jersey State Teachers College
(now Kean University) and has studied with a number of nationally recognized artists.
Her works, including a fourteen foot mural, are in a number of private and public collections.
In her many years of volunteering with the Coral Springs Artist Guild, she held many
offices including President, Vice President, Membership Chair, Newsletter Editor, Exhibit Chair of
many exhibits, taught classes in watercolor and drawing, and gave workshops in computer art.
She mentored several presidents and is an Advisor with the Guild.
Richter’s watercolor of the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr. in Atlanta, entitled
“Where a Dream Began” was bought through donations and presented to Dr. King’s eldest
daughter, Yolanda King, on the occasion of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration on
January 15, 1994 at the City Centre in Coral Springs, FL.
She accumulated the necessary points through awards and exhibits to be awarded Signature
Membership in both the Palm Beach Watercolor Society and the Gold Coast Watercolor Society.
She has also won many awards as a member of Women in the Visual Arts of Palm Beach and
Broward Counties, and with the Coral Springs Artist Guild.
With the required acceptance in three Florida Watercolor Society Exhibits, she was awarded
Signature Membership with that organization and has exhibited further in many Museums and
Galleries across the state.
She was juried into the Florida Artists Group in 1999 and has exhibited with FLAG since 2000.
Artist Statement:
While watercolor has been my preferred medium for many years, more recently the computer has
become another tool with which to produce works of art. When I am too lazy or tired to drag out my
paints and brushes, it is great fun to go to the computer, pull up one or more of my photographs and
begin to try new ways of making an original work. It is very exciting to be able to easily manipulate
forms in different and unusual ways.
I find producing art works, whatever the medium, to be both relaxing and challenging at the same
time. It is a means of releasing the stresses of daily living. One can forget the burdens and problems
of the day for a time and return to the workaday world refreshed.
