Artist Statement:

The artist has spent the past 20 years exploring their home state of Florida through the medium of photography. The artist’s most recent work examines shorelines along the East Coast, as observed during routine morning walks. The artist explains, ‘There is something magical about these fluid spaces where the land meets the sea. Changing seasons, tides, wind, and weather ensure there is always something new to experience.’ The artist captures subtle, fleeting moments in time through their photography, including birds taking
flight, abstracted patterns/impressions in the sand, and the simple elegance of crashing waves. After the hurricanes of 2022, the artist expanded their subject matter to include seawalls. The artist elaborates, ‘After the hurricanes, I searched for subtle beauty amongst the rubble, and found it in the peeling paint and textures of the seawalls that were battered by the storms.’ The artist concludes, ‘As a whole, I have learned to visit coastal spaces without expectation, and through this openness, I am often led down unexpected paths, allowing me to capture this elusive landscape in new and refreshing ways.’
