Katty’s Bio:
Sixty-five years is how long it took Katty to begin her journey in the art world. She enrolled in a ceramic sculpture class at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA, and spent two years honing her skills using clay as her medium. The passion for sculpting was like none other she had experienced and for eleven years Katty entered shows, exhibited in galleries, was published, and won numerous awards.
Her desire to learn and grow as an artist led to her “leap of faith” into the world of abstract painting. There was a rebirth of passion and creativity that within a year resulted in a solo exhibit and continued success.
She is a studio artist in New Smyrna Beach, FL, and belongs to numerous art organizations and exhibits her work in a local gallery.
Artist Statement:
Finding one’s passion in life does not always appear early on and the longer you wait, the stronger that passion seems to be. Such is my story as an artist who made this discovery at age sixty-five and has never looked back. Sculpting images that depict the female human spirit began my journey which has taken on different looks along the way from very realistic to more contemporary sculptures that now are finished in bold colors and textured surfaces, many conveying a story.
A new direction is materializing in my creative mind as branching out into abstract painting is adding a new spark of creativity and changing the way I view and understand art. Painting allows a freedom of expression that is not available in the structuring of clay images.
