Lynn’s Bio:
I was not trained in the more traditional collegiate way by obtaining an art degree. I have always taken art classes, including many in college, but it was really because they were just of interest to me. I have been instructed, and still am being instructed, by some of the best our state has to offer. I have also spent time at Penland School of Craft, which has proven to be very instrumental in my development and style of work. My first instructor was Helen Bennett. I then spent a few years with Grady Kimsey at Seminole Community College. His influence has helped shape my work as well as my outlook on art. Design, good as well as not so good, is something we all experience on a daily basis. My sense of design has been honed by the 10+ year influence of Vincent Sansone at Crealde School of Art. My affinity for all things industrial has been sharpened by David Cumbie and his vast knowledge of all things sculptural.
Artist Statement:
I create hand built clay work that is then, most likely, married with other materials to a mixed media end.
I have always been attracted to opposites. Masculine/ Feminine, earthy/ industrial as well as repetitive forms. The sculptural aspect always comes first to my mind and then, if any function is to be involved, it follows. I love the nature inspired palette of earthy colors but am always searching for a pop of something, (perhaps un-natural) for excitement. Industrial elements attract me. I get excited over a beautiful patina or pattern of rust. Rust is my favorite color.
I love the life I am allowed to live. I am able to embrace my craft with the exhuberance
