 A message from the President
Cheryl Anne Day-Swallow
This year's symposium certainly did "bloom with enthusiasm". I would like to take this moment to express my thanks to the many people who were instrumental in making it a success.
Ofra, Joan and everyone in Area III who were so full of enthusiasm as they welcomed members and guests alike while at the same time ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
Kevin and Laura and their staff at the Ringling College of Art & Design for hosting this year's symposium. Tom Nakashima, our juror, who was so generous with his time. Everyone enjoyed his personal stories,
adventures and just his great personality. He was also blooming with enthusiasm as he spoke with our members during the weekend.
We had an exciting members' meeting. There were two proposals presented at this year's symposium, the first having to do with the number of areas in the state and member caps, and the second establishing types of membership. The membership suggested a few minor changes. Both proposals were tweaked, voted on and passed.
We now have ten areas in the state of Florida instead of seven. All areas have a cap of 32 members with the exception of Area III which now has a cap of 45.
Starting in 2013 we will have three types of membership, Active, Emeritus and Honorary. Emeritus membership is open to members who have been a part of our group for ten years or more. Honorary membership includes past presidents and members with many years of outstanding service. All Honorary memberships are approved by the board. The guidelines for membership will be posted on the FLAG website soon.
Congratulations Florida Artist Group for moving forward to ensure that your group continues to promote artists in the entire state of Florida.
The symposium winners, highlights and artwork are already posted on the website. Thank you Judy Kramer and Jim Swallow for making this happen so quickly for our members.
May you “bloom with enthusiasm” this year as you create your art work. Thank you for your support, participation, suggestions and comments while we go into the future together.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Anne Day-Swallow
