PRESIDENT’S mESSAGE
It is very exciting to have our Symposium at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota. I am grateful to Mark Ormond who made this possible in early 2017 and to Tim Jaeger, Campus & Community Engagement Manager for his continuing assistance. We cannot thank you enough for your services and hospitality.
We are delighted that our Membership Drive was so succeessful this year. One returning member and 20 new members were juried into FLAG. They are Gerald Obregon, Area 1; Returning member, John Bowen and new member, Victoria Sheridan, Area 2; Diane Chenharik, John Hintz, Susan Hurwitch, Jill Krasner and Jana Millstone, Area 3; Peggy Banks, Fay Samimi, Francisco Arias, Grace Leal, Renee Lewis, Sharon Morgan, Michael Nemnich, Ellen Pavlakos, Robert Shirk, Lillian Verkins and Lynn Warnicke, Area 5; Vicky Lennon, Area 6; and Christian Wyatt, Area 7. Please look for them at the Symposium, and introduce yourself.
Area 3 has done an outstanding job of working out all the details for this year’s Symposium. It began with Susan von Gries working with Mark Ormond, the Curator at Ringling. When Susan, due to a health issue was no longer able to continue, Lolly Owens became the Area Chairperson and put the committees together to make our weekend
the success that it is. Thank you, Lolly and Susan for your leadership.
If has been a busy year for FLAG, with many new accomplishments due to members stepping up to fill positions. We have Mindy Colton, Area 5 in the Social Media Chair. Mindy is the creator and Administrator or our Interactive Facebook page, Florida Artists Group, where any FLAG member who has a Facebook account can post their latest news.
Joseph Weinzettle, Area 4, applied for grants from Cultural Affairs of Florida to assist in paying for our Symposium. We were not selected this year; maybe next near. Please greet and thank Joe for his endeavor.
New artist member and professional web designer, Sharon Morgan, Area 5 has been named Public Relations Chair. Her first project was the booklet that you received in your packet, “The Beauty of Small.” She will be getting new brochures printed soon and our catalog online after this Symposium. She is also the candidate for Corresponding Secretary.
John Hintz, Area 3 new member, is the interim assistant Treasurer who will continue as Treasurer when elected at the Annual Meeting. Please greet John and the other new Board Members and thank them for heeding the call to carry out the business of the organization.
Enjoy the fellowship by getting acquainted with as many artists from around the state as you can, and get involved to make us event better. Congratuations to all of you! We are all winners!
